Since March 2006, the members of Groovesect have blazed a trail through the streets and clubs of the New Orleans music scene, on a mission to secure their place amongst some of the finest musicians the town can offer. Inspired by the syncopated funk beats and jazz rhythms of New Orleans and beyond, the guys pay homage to the greats while forging their own unique sound. Groovesect's sound reflects the deep musical relationships they have with one another after playing in various incarnations in the Crescent City since they were eighteen. Each a skilled veteran in their craft, they push each other further and further each show while still maintaining that steady groove, of which they are beginning to be quite known for. They blend rock, jazz, soul, and fusion music while still getting down on that nasty funk that they do best.

Since Alfred "Uganda" Roberts joined the band in the spring of 2007, Groovesect has been voted the number one Funk Band and number two Contemporary Jazz Band in the 2007 Best of the Big Easy Awards (Where Y'at Magazine). Uganda is one of New Orleans' greatest living legends. He was the only steady member of Professor Longhair's band and has toured and recorded with the Meters, Dr. John, Herbie Mann, Willie T, and many other New Orleans music luminaries.
Joppa
Joppa is an eclectic mixture of funk, alternative rock, gospel, and blues based out of the Washington DC area. The band was founded in 1998 by Danny Dahan (bass), Ben Ifshin (guitar) and David Karr (drums). Playing block parties and battle of the bands, the trio began to scratch the surface of what Joppa would eventually become. In 2001 Joppa found its voice when a friend of Ben, Ramzy Suleiman, (Lead Vocals, Keys) was added to the band. Joppa's music has truly become something new and exciting, unlike anything currently out there. The band has begun to develop a devoted following around the Washington DC, Baltimore area, consistently playing at local clubs and bars. Joppa recorded their first LP, Capes and Umbrellas, at the Lion and Fox Studios with acclaimed producer Jim Fox this past August. Joppa and their followers are building momentum, and the band is as excited as ever to see what the future has to offer.
