Down in New Orleans a new sound
sustains the party through the
rolling depths of the evening, often
setting with the rising of the Sun.
From soulful jazz expressions to
second-line fusion, from dirty drum
'n' bass breaks to festering swells
of swerving bass, the source remains
Gravity A. Taking their name from
the force responsible for the
cohesion and semblance of all
subatomic matter (as opposed to
Newton's well known gravity b), the
band acts as the force responsible
for inciting dance with the rhythms
and frequencies of polar vibrations.
Though heavily influenced by the
positivity and progression of
electronic stylings, Gravity A
chiefly grounds the sound in live
instrumentation to weave their sonic
tapestry, with the occasional lucid
sample surfacing beneath ambient
currents. Sweltering below
sea-level, the moods of a typical
show flow from creation to
revelation, improvising impressions
of a collective movement. Since
2005, Gravity A has appeared with
many excellent musicians, both local
and nationally touring acts. Within
the electronica/jam scene, the band
has opened for acts such as Pnuma
Trio, EOTO (String Cheese Incident
sideproject), Girl Talk, Orchard
Lounge, Breakage (UK), Marcus
Intalex (UK), and Freaky Flow.
Gravity A has also appeared on stage
with Mike Dillon of Les Claypool's
Frog Brigade, Dr.Fameus (Allen
Aucoin of the Disco Biscuits), Jacob
Fred Jazz Odyssey, Elemental
Harmonics, local drumming legend
Johnny Vidacovich, and local
saxophone legend Tim Green. |
Emergency
Service
10:30pm
Emergency Service is a New York City
based band with music that fuses the
relaxed vibes of reggae, the
consciousness of hip hop, the rhythm
and groove of funk, and the energy
of the city they call home. Singer
songwriter Sammy G and lyricist
Aureliam joined forces in 2005 and
began creating unique,
thought-provoking songs that they
first started playing as a duo
around the New York City open mic
scene. After receiving an extremely
positive reception, the two embarked
on a mission to create a full band
that could bring an explosive live
show and add musical depth to their
sound.
Brayton's Way
9:30pm
Brayton's Way consists of
guitarist/vocalist Josh Lanzet,
bassist Mark Falcon, pianist Yoni
Dolgin, and percussionist Andrew
Klein. The band's unique sound
'combines the loving lyrical
playfulness of Barenaked Ladies with
the technical prowess of Blues
Traveler' ' Mike Murphy, DJ WQHS
Philadelphia. Two Brayton's Way
songs, 'Night Hours' and 'Late
Rain,' have begun to gain popularity
due to the air time they have
received at WQHS, WXBC and WRCU in
New York, as well as KWUR in St.
Louis.
Dwight & Nicole
8:30pm
Highly acclaimed underground
soul/blues duo Dwight & Nicole
(Dwight Ritcher and Nicole Nelson)
has been charming music fans and
critics for years with their
profound blend of American music.
Equal parts 60’s soul, 40’s jazz,
and Delta blues, the duo is at the
vanguard of New York City’s latest
emergence of cool. Performing
usually as a duo, Dwight & Nicole
have the ability to bring a very big
presence to any stage.
Mieka Pauley
7:30pm
Mieka Pauley follows her own vision
for her music, and her soul / blues
/ rock / acoustic / alternative
style has inspired comparisons to
Ben Harper, Cat Power, Neko Case,
Patty Griffin and others. She is the
winner of the first ever Starbucks
Emerging Artist Award, the Rocky
Mountain Folks Festival Songwriter
Showcase and the Rock Boat / BMI
Song Contest. She has played more
than 700 live club, festival and

John Legend, K.T. Tunstall, Black
Eyed Peas, Wyclef Jean, Guster,
Jason Mraz, Citizen Cope, and many
others. Her highly anticipated new
album, Elijah Drop Your Gun, was
